‘Do not take up agitations which malign the community’
MALAPPURAM: All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary and Islamic scholar Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar has warned the people against taking agitations out of bounds. Inaugurating a meeting organised by the Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) here on Thursday, the Sunni leader said that any agitation for any cause should be justifiable and productive. “No agitation should be allowed to lead to a situation where the name of a community is maligned,” he said referring to the ongoing agitation against the controversial Class VII social sciences textbook. On teacher’s death
Deploring the burning of textbooks by the activists of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and the violent incidents that led to the death of James Augustine, headmaster of ALP School, Valillapuzha, during a cluster training programme at Kizhisseri, Mr. Kanthapuram said that those incidents had brought shame on a section of the community. He called upon the society to transcend political and religious boundaries to fight all kinds of immorality.
Mr. Kanthapuram demanded that an investigation be launched into the alleged bribing of Lok Sabha members during the confidence motion moved by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
The incident has brought shame on the country, he said. Samastha Mushawara member Sayed Husain Shihab Thangal presided over the function.
